book cover for the man called noon

The Man Called Noon by Louis L’Amour.

Louis L’Amour is a guilty pleasure of mine. His books are so simple but so viscerally compelling. The prose is simple but precise in a way that captures the deep experience of solitude and observation.

Moderat

I’m rediscovering a band I used to listen to nearly 20 years ago, Moderat.

Gojira

I’m still listening to a lot of Gojira.

Khemmis

I’ve discovered a doom metal band, Khemmis. Their sound is huge, dark, and very melodic.

Their song, Flesh to Nothing, perfectly captures my current feelings on deconstruction.

Scourge Bringer

This game scratches all of my game itches. Low-bit, Metroidvania, roguelite, with RPG skilltrees. This game is so similar to Hades with its use of death, skill leveling, and level run (starting completely over after each death). I played well over 1000 hours on Hades between Steam and Switch and am still not tired of the game.

scourge bringer gameplay

I love games like this; they’re difficult, require the player to learn precise controls and master skills, gets progressively easier as you level (or as you get good), and rewards persistence and learning over entertainment and ease of gameplay.

Stardew Valley

My wife and I have been playing this game off and on for a couple years. I love spending time with her.

Quiet, low conflict game. We do intervals of alternating two in-game days with 10-20 minutes of housework. It helps our ADHD immensely to get things done like that.
